William Wayne Short's Obituary
William Wayne Short, 91, of Casey, IL passed away at 10:45 p.m. on Monday, April 22, 2013 at Casey Health Care Center, Casey, IL. He was born January 18, 1922 in Diona, IL, the son of Everett Short and Ruby Fern Black Short. He married Clara Ruth Callahan. She passed away on July 10, 1977. Survivors include son, Stephen Short of Mattoon, IL; son, Phillip Short and wife Diane of Casey, IL; grandson, Aaron Short and wife, Christy of Casey, IL; grandson, Brandon Short and wife Becky of Casey, IL; grandchildren, Dalton, Cheyenne, Joseph, Savannah and Garrett. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sisters, Beulah Malloy and Leona Ramsey. Mr. Short was a WWII US Army veteran. He served his country from 1942 through 1945 in the Amphibious Branch as an Amphibious Tank Commander. SGT Short was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Greenup VFW. Wayne pumped oil leases for various oil companies all of his life and was a full time farmer until his retirement. Graveside services and burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 26, 2013 at the Washington Cemetery, Cumberland County, IL with Preacher Aaron Short officiating. Graveside Military Rites will be conducted by the Greenup VFW. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday evening at the Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL.
