Wendell Doyle Hickox's Obituary
Wendell Doyle Hickox, 73 of Casey, Illinois went to his eternal rest on Thursday, May 11, 2006. Wendell passed peacefully at 6:30 a.m. surrounded by his wife and children. Visitation will be held at Markwell Funeral Home, Casey, IL on Sunday, May 14th from 4:00-7:00 p.m. with funeral services following on Monday, May 15th at 11:00 a.m. with Michael J. Davis officiating. Burial will be in the Casey Cumberland Cemetery, Casey, IL with Graveside Military Rites by the Casey V.F.W. Post #5762 and Hazel Dell American Legion Post #1230. Wendell was born in Jasper County, IL on March 1, 1933 to Oliver Doyle Hickox and Marjorie Pauline Harris Hickox. He married Beverly June Umbarger on January 17th, 1953. They have 5 children, sons, Brad Hickox (wife, Peggy) of Casey, and Randy Hickox (wife, Lisa) of Bridge City, TX. Daughters, Durinda Ellis (husband, Mike) of Casey, Becky Ware (husband, Wes) of Effingham, and Paula Partlow (husband, Mike) of Edmond, OK. He has 17 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Wendell is succeeded by five siblings, Brothers, Lowell Hickox (wife, Dianna) of Yale, IL, Earl Hickox (wife Monna) of Yale, IL, Sisters, Phyllis Abraham (husband, Jim) of Terre Haute, IN, Carol Van Dyke (husband, Scott) of Tulsa, OK and Donna Michel (husband, David) of New Haven, Indiana. Wendell spent his adult life working with wood whether it be building homes or cabinets. He was a teacher of his trade to many. He enjoyed many kinds of music and spent countless hours recording his favorite songs. He was an organizer and promoter of the Annual Casey Bluegrass Festival. Along with spending time with his grandchildren, that he so enjoyed, Wendell could be found working in his garden or cooking in his kitchen, two of his favorite pastimes. His work was wood, his passion was music and his love was his family. Wendell was a member of the Casey Church of Christ and a U.S. Army Veteran serving in the Korean War. Wendell was loved by a large extended family and countless friends, some dating back to his youth and others he made along the way. He will be greatly missed by all.
