Walter Herbert Hawker's Obituary
Walter Herbert "Herb" Hawker, 81, of Hazel Dell, IL passed away at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday, May 12, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born September 3, 1929 in Hazel Dell, IL, the son of William Howard Hawker and Anna Loreen Cook Hawker. On February 23, 1957, he married Shelby Warren in Old Shawneetown, IL. Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-four years, Shelby Hawker of Hazel Dell, IL; sons, Bill Hawker of Hazel Dell, IL; Michael (Mary) Hawker of Charleston, IL and Chris (Hilary) Hawker of Newburgh, IN; daughters, Linda (Scott) Simpson of Yale, IL and Sheryl (Jim) Fisher of Casey, IL; sisters, Margaret Carlen and Mildred Biggs of Hazel Dell, IL; Carolyn (Dean) Fasig of Casey, IL; grandchildren, Levi Fisher, Lora Fisher, Jessi Biggs, Nikki Pogue, Karri Hawker, Katie Simpson, Lane Simpson, Kent Hawker and Carlie Hawker; great grandchildren, Deron Fisher, Clayton Biggs, Ethan Pogue and Eli Pogue and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Howard and Carl Hawker. Herb was a member of the Hazel Dell Church of Christ. He was a US Air Force veteran. Herb was retired after twenty-five years of service at the Casey National Bank. He worked at the Casey National Mini Bank, the first original drive-up bank in downtown Casey, which he manned for many years alone before moving to the new bank. Herb also worked at the Casey Monument Shop designing monuments for many years. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 15, 2011 at the Markwell Funeral Home, Casey, IL with Rev. Rick Emrich officiating. Burial will follow in the Hazel Dell Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial donations and contributions may be made to Lincolnland Hospice, 700 Broadway Ave., Suite 9, Mattoon, IL 61938.
