Walter Eugene "Gene" Conner's Obituary
Walter Eugene "Gene" Conner, 89, of Martinsville, IL passed away at 6 a.m. on Saturday, December 18, 2010 at Casey Health Care Center, Casey, IL. He was born August 9, 1921, in St. Louis, MO, the son of Walter O. Conner and Fairy Morgan Conner. On July 1, 1942, he married Irene Williams. She passed away on June 14, 2002. Survivors include his sons, Paul Eugene Conner of Paris, IL and Gary Wayne Conner and wife Sherri of Martinsville, IL; brother, Walter Dale Conner and wife Margaret of Robinson, IL; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, Linda Beasley and brothers, Ernest Conner and Robert Conner. Gene retired from Velsicol in Marshall, IL after thirty years. He also worked for Rowe Foundry in Martinsville, IL for over four years and helped area farmers. He was a lifelong resident of Martinsville, IL. Gene was a US Army WWII veteran; he received two bronze stars and one silver star. He was a member of the Martinsville American Legion. Gene enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at the Greenwell Funeral Home with Brother Billie Ray Ulrey officiating. Burial will follow in the Ridgelawn Cemetery with graveside military rites by the Martinsville American Legion. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the Greenwell Funeral Home. Memorial donations and contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 2509 S.
