Virginia Arlene Bennett's Obituary
Virginia Arlene Bennett, 87, formerly of Martinsville, IL, passed away at 4:50 a.m. on Wednesday, August 19, 2009, at Charleston Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Charleston, Illinois. Virginia was born on September 17, 1921, the daughter of Benjamin Marquis Flenner and Ethel Seaton Flenner. On April 26, 1941, she married Harold Sport' Bennett, in St. Charles, MO. He passed away June 8, 2005. She is survived by son, Monty Bennett and his wife Trish of Charleston, IL; daughter, Barbara Robinette and her husband Elwyn of Sarasota, FL; daughter-in-law, Judy Bennett of Charleston, IL; two granddaughters, Michelle Taylor and her husband Pete of Villa Grove, IL; Danielle Downs and her husband Matthew of Charleston, IL; seven grandsons, Chad Bennett and his wife Stephanie of Maryland Heights, MO; Brett Bennett and his wife Lisa of Charleston, IL; Nathan Bennett and his wife Julie of Marshall, IL; Matthew Bennett and his wife Tara, and Chris Bennett and his wife Gina, both of Little Rock, AR; Drew Bennett and his wife Wendy of Benton, AR; and Noah Robinette of Sarasota, FL; and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Randy Bennett, on February 10, 2008; and infant grandson, Jason Bennett. Virginia and her husband Sport' owned and operated Bennett's IGA Store in Martinsville, IL for many years. They later owned two Convenient Food Marts in Elmira and Corning, New York for fourteen years before retiring. She was a lifelong member and very active participant of the Martinsville Bible Church. On a personal level, she was a very accomplished coronet player, winning two National competitions and three State competitions. Most of all, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Funeral services will be held at Greenwell Funeral Home, 30 North Washington Street, Martinsville, IL, on Saturday, August 22, 2009 at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. David Wilson and Bro. Billie Ray Ulrey officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home Memorial donations and contributions may be made to the Charleston Bible Church, Window Renovation Project, 2605 University Drive, Charleston, IL 61920.
