Velma L. (Athey)Murphy, 84, of Casey, IL passed away at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 5, 2009 at her home in Casey, IL. She was born August 24, 1924 in Milroy, Minnesota, the daughter of John Wayne Athey and Murrel Lewis Athey. On October 14, 1942 she married Leland F. "Stub" Murphy in St. Charles, MO. He passed away on March 17, 2005. Survivors include her daughter, Lorrene "Tootie" Rue and fiancé Gene Crotteau of Bonita Springs, FL; daughter in law, Judy Murphy of Casey, IL; grandson, Randy Murphy and wife Amy of Casey, IL; grandson, Bradley Rue and wife Christine of Mt. Carmel, IL; granddaughter, Tonya da Silva and husband Davino of Bonita Springs, FL; great grandchildren, Nick, Megan and Zach Murphy; Cailey, Allison and Austin Rue and Guilherme and Ryan da Silva, brother, Lloyd Athey and wife Shirley of Casey, IL; sister, Pearl Shore and husband Lowell of Casey, IL; sister in law, Bernice Athey of Casey, IL and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Leland "Stub" Murphy on March 17, 2005; son, Kenneth "Kenny" Lee Murphy on January 17, 2008; sister, Lavonne Cummins and brother, Delmar Athey. Velma worked for Ettlebrick Shoe Company and was the bookkeeper and co-owner of Murphy Trucking in Casey, IL since 1942. She was a graduate of the Casey High School Class of 1942. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2009 at the Markwell Funeral Home, Casey, IL with Rev. Dan Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Casey Cumberland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
