Velma Lorene Maxwell's Obituary
Velma Lorene Maxwell, 83, of Martinsville, Illinois passed away at 12:10 a.m. on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. She was born April 12, 1926 in Melrose Twp., Illinois, the daughter of Otis Leroy Williams, Sr. and Clara Ellen Carpenter Williams. Survivors include her son, J. William Maxwell and wife Jacqueline of Lexington, MO; son, James L. Maxwell and wife Vickie of Casey, IL; daughter, Ellen Maxwell of DeSoto, IL; son, Larry R. Maxwell and wife Virginia of Rochelle, IL; son, Robert Lee Maxwell and wife Pennie of Martinsville, IL; sister, Olcie Mae Long of Terre Haute, IN; sister, Ruth Wilkey of Paris, IL; brother in law, Eugene Conner of Martinsville, IL grandchildren, Michael Maxwell and wife Toni, Kevin Maxwell and wife Nichole, Heather Maxwell, Stacey Harris and husband Ryan, Bryan Maxwell, Quentin Lashbrook, Sean Lashbrook and wife Michelle, Jason Lashbrook and wife Cristina, Kim Miller and husband Jonathan, Samantha Diericks and husband Jason, Kyle Maxwell and fiancé Nicole Young, Trenton Maxwell and Carrie Maxwell; nineteen great grandchildren and one step great grandchild. Her parents, husband, Jack Maxwell; sisters, Mildred Frankel, Irene Conner, Doris Conner, Marilyn Hammer and brother Otis Leroy Williams, Jr. preceded her in death. Velma was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She cherished her time with her family. She joined the Martinsville Bible Church on April 17, 1977, where she participated in the Bible Church Missionary Sewing Group. She volunteered her time at the Casey Thrift Store for many years and was the co-founder of Martinsville Brownie Troop #28. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at the Martinsville Bible Church, 509 Ridgelawn Rd., Martinsville, IL with Pastor David Wilson and Billie Ray Ulrey officiating. Burial will follow in the Ridgelawn Cemetery, Martinsville, IL. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Greenwell Funeral Home, 30 N. Washington St., Martinsville, IL. Memorial donations and contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250.
