Stanley Medford Brandenburg, 83, of Mattoon, Illinois passed away at 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at his home in Mattoon, Illinois. He was born September 1, 1925 in Casey, Illinois, the son of Earl Edgar Brandenburg and Lillie Swim Brandenburg. On November 12, 1949 he married Coralie Black in Casey, Illinois. Survivors include his wife, Coralie of Mattoon, IL; daughter, Carole Thompson and husband Roy of Lerna, IL; son, David Brandenburg of Mattoon, IL; son, Kevin Brandenburg and wife Lisa of Mattoon, IL, grandchildren, Brandon Thompson and wife Tina of Mattoon, IL, Hollie Goodman of Mattoon, IL, Tyler Brandenburg of Mattoon, IL; step grandchildren, Jessica Leach and husband Dan of Peoria, IL, Lauren Byrnes of Dekalb, IL, Jimmy Johnson of Mattoon, IL; great grandchildren, Sierra Brandenburg, Brina, Bradon and Brinton Thompson, all of Mattoon, IL and step great grandchild, Bryson Leach. His parents, brothers, Edgar and Carl Brandenburg and sister, Helen Applegate preceded him in death. Mr. Brandenburg worked many years at the Mattoon Texaco and retired from Superior Equipment Co. in Mattoon, IL. Stanley was an Army WWII and Korean War veteran and a member of the Mattoon V.F.W. He was a long time member and former trustee of the First Southern Baptist Church in Mattoon, IL. Funeral services will at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2008 at the Markwell Funeral Home, Casey, IL with the Rev. Dr. John Calio officiating. Burial will be in the Casey Cumberland Cemetery, Casey, Illinois. Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 4 to 7 p.m. at the First Southern Baptist Church, 3521 DeWitt Ave., Mattoon, IL and on Saturday morning from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Markwell Funeral Home, Casey, IL. Memorial donations may be made to the First Southern Baptist Church, 3521 DeWitt Ave., Mattoon, IL 61938. Memorial tributes and condolences may be sent to the family at www.markwellfuneralhome.com.
