Shirley Ann Whitton's Obituary
Shirley Ann Whitton, age 88, of Casey, IL passed away at 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at Heartland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Casey, IL. She was born September 10, 1935 in Bement, IL, the daughter of Jesse Crook and Leo (Wildman) Crook. On November 24, 1955 she married Paul Gene Whitton in Monticello, IL.
Survivors include her husband of over 68 years, Gene Whitton of Casey, IL; children, Kenneth Whitton (Sheree) of Martinsville, IL; Kathy Roberts (Greg) of Jewett, IL and Karri Brown (Thomas) of Marshall, IL; grandchildren, Chase Whitton, Mitchell Whitton, Rowdy Roberts, Chance Roberts, Wyatt Roberts, Jessica Peppin and Jared Richardson; great grandchildren, Lilyana Peppin, Brody Roberts, Jakeb Richardson, Jude Richardson and Jonathan Richardson; brothers, Jesse "Buster" Crook of Monticello, IL and Bob Crook of Champaign, IL; sister, Mary Lou Childs (friend John) of Rochester, IL; sister in law, Doris Crook of Indianapolis, IN; many nephews and nieces; her Church family and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Dean Crook; sister in law, Sharon Crook and daughter in law, Brenda (Boyd) Whitton.
Shirley was a 1953 graduate of Mansfield High School. She worked for Coble 's Dry Cleaners for over 29 years. Shirley was a faithful member of Casey First Christian Church where she taught Sunday school for many years and participated in many offices, committees and organizations in the church. Gene and Shirley enjoyed the outdoors; especially riding around town in their Jeep and golf cart. She enjoyed sewing, reading, walking and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at Casey First Christian Church with Pastor Mike Dixon officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 - 6 p.m. on Thursday prior to the service at Casey First Christian Church, 200 SE Eighth St., Casey, IL. Burial will be in Washington Street Cemetery, Casey, IL at a later date.
