Sharon Jean Harrison's Obituary
Sharon Jean Harrison, age 86, of Charleston, IL joined her family in Heaven on Tuesday morning January 23, 2024, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center with her family by her side. She was born July 31, 1937, in Charleston, IL, the daughter of James Hally Hopper and Minnie Opal Rogers Hopper. On December 27, 1957, she married Larry Andrew Harrison in Charleston, IL; they were blessed with two sons.
Survivors include her sons, Scott A. Harrison of Charleston, IL and Chad S. Harrison (wife, Jen Ambrose) of Sarasota, FL; grandsons, Dylan Harrison (fiancé, Kamden Flynn), Riley Harrison (fiancé, Jolee Sanders) and Jackson Harrison; great grandson on the way, Beau Alexander Harrison; many nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces including special nephew, Gary Gilbert (Cheryl) of Charleston, IL and special nieces who have cared for her over the past twenty years, Patsy Loew (Jerry) of Effingham, IL and Dee Partlow (Marshall) of Casey, IL; friend and co-worker, Mary Dyer of Mattoon, IL who visited Sharon weekly the past few years and many additional family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; former husband; special friend, Keith Edwards; brothers and sisters, Marian Daily (Harold), Mildred Cooley (Wilbur), Dora Gilbert (Gene), Charles Hopper, James Hopper (Margaret), Samuel Hopper (Liz) and Jo Ann Watson (Dennis).
Sharon was a 1955 graduate of Charleston High School; her class was the first to attend the new high school, which is now the current high school. She attended every class reunion and enjoyed dining out with her classmates on Friday nights for many years. Sharon was employed as a teacher 's assistant at the Franklin school in Mattoon, IL for over 20 years. She had a wonderful gift of patience with the special needs children she lovingly cared for. They always held a special place in her heart, and she often spoke of them with fond memories.
Sharon was a member of the Salisbury Church in Hutton, IL, where she was baptized. She loved all things Elvis Presley, enjoyed shopping, traveling, dancing and was an avid sports fan. The Fighting Illini, Chicago Cubs, and Chicago Bears were her favorites; she never missed a ballgame.
Sharon was a faithful daughter, loving sister, dutiful wife, fun-loving aunt, doting mother and adored her grandsons; they were perfect in her eyes. She was a proud military sister and Air Force mom. Sharon was a former member of the Charleston VFW Women 's Auxiliary, Charleston Moose Club and Charleston Elks Club. Her greatest joy was any time she could spend with her family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at the Salisbury Church with Pastor Ray Finney officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery in Charleston, IL. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. prior to the service on Wednesday at the Salisbury Church, 2190 Co Hwy 5, Charleston, IL.
