Scottie Lynch's Obituary
Scottie Lynch, age 81, of Martinsville, IL died on Monday, July 4, 2005 at Burnside Nursing Home in Marshall. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 8, 2005 at the Willow Creek Presbyterian Church in rural Martinsville with Rev. Kevin Small officiating. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 7 at the Greenwell Funeral Home in Martinsville with Masonic Services at 7:45 p.m. by the Clark Lodge #603. Graveside service and burial will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2005 at the Ullin Community Cemetery in Ullin, IL. He was born April 22, 1924 in Carbondale, IL, the son of William A. and Edith C. Young Lynch. He married Margaret Shaw on June 30, 1946; she preceded him in death on December 30, 2003. He was a retired teacher and school administrator, having retired as the Superintendent of Schools in Mazon, IL. He received his BS from Southern Illinois University, his Masters at Indiana State and his Administrative Degree at Eastern Illinois University. He was a member of the Harlingin Wesley United Methodist Church in Harlingin, TX and attended the Willow Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church while living in Martinsville. He was a member of the Mazon Lodge #826 AF & AM; the Scottish Rite Body of Bloomgington, IL and Illinois Education Administrators Assoc. He served his country during WWII as a 1st Class Radio Man on the USS Revenge, a mine sweeper vessel which was the first to enter Tokoyo Bay. He was a member of the American Legion POst #352 in Mazon, IL and a member of the Naval Mine Sweepers Assoc. Surviving are three daughters, Rev. Mary Mallory of Birmingham, MI, Barbara Kannmacher and husband Gale of Martinsville and Susan Brewster and husband Paul of Jacksonville, IL; two step-sisters Elizabeth Kaye Bovey of Battleground, WA and Lula Bigler of Carbondale,IL, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
