Ruth Emrich Glasby's Obituary
Ruth Emrich Glasby, age 98, of Doylestown, PA, formerly of Casey, died on Friday, August 19, 2005 at the retirement home where she was living. Funeral services are pending, but will be held in Doylestown. She was born February 3, 1907 in Sullivan, IL, the daughter of Parry C. and Myrta Saylor Emrich. She married William E. Glasby of Lansdowne, PA on August 17, 1940; he preceded her in death on April 25, 2004. She and her family moved from Sullivan to Casey, her father's home town, then to Colorado, and Collins, Osceola and Crane, MO before returning to Casey in 1920. She graduated from Casey High School with the Class of 1925 and attended James Millikin University in Decatur, majoring in music. She then taught music in public schools in Hillsboro for three years before leaving to resume studying piano and pipe organ in St. Louis, MO. She also gave private piano lessons. She was the organist for the North Methodist Church and later at the Christian Science Church in Kirkwood, MO. She substituted as organist at the Fox Theater and Second Presbyterian Church and had a regular program on the radio station KMOX, all in St. Louis. It was in St. Louis that she met her husband who was a sales representative for an electrical ceramics firm from New Jersey. Soon after their marriage, they were transferred to Chattanooga, TN where she was an organist for the First Christian Church. She became an professional accompanist after they were transferred to Chicago and was sought out by many returning soloists. Their last transfer put them in Doylestown, near his family, and where they remained. She volunteered at the local hospital and with clubs and she and her husband traveled extensively, taking many cruises to far off places. She received many honors and recognitions throughout her life. Surviving are her sister, Marie Goben, nephew Bill Goben and wife Jo, all of Casey, along with several other nieces, nephews and cousins living in various places.
