Ruth Bryan Cochonour's Obituary
Ruth Bryan Cochonour was born in Ringling, Oklahoma on November 13, 1911, the daughter of Joe H. and Lylian Hall Bryan. At an early age her family moved to Ada, Oklahoma, where she graduated from Ada High School and attended East Central State University, earning the Bachelor of Science Degree at the age of 19. After receiving her degree she taught at the high school level, instructing students almost the same age as she was. In the summer of 1933, she attended graduate school at the University of Colorado. During this time, she met Clark R. Cochonour, a student from the University of Illinois, who was attending law classes at the University of Colorado. They became engaged that summer and were married the following year on August 14, 1934 in Ada, Oklahoma, where they lived for 8 years. In 1942, they moved to Casey, Illinois. Mrs. Cochonour was a lifetime member of the Methodist Church and was active as a Kindergarten Sunday School teacher for 20 years. She was also an active member of the United Methodist Women and the first president of that group when the Methodist Church and the Evangelical United Brethren Church merged in 1968. Mrs. Cochonour was a retired Casey School teacher and served a term as President of the Casey Teachers Association. She was a longstanding member of the Casey Women's Club and past president of that organization. For many years she was a member of the Casey Country Club, where she enjoyed golfing and playing bridge. Survivors include her three sons, Robert, Joe and wife Jacquie, Don and wife Joanne; four grandchildren, Clark Cochonour and wife Gena; Ann Monken and husband Tom; Bryan Cochonour and wife Lyn and Kimberly Eckerty and husband Barry; eleven great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mary Johnson, all of Casey, IL and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four sisters, two brothers and one daughter-in-law. Memorial donations may be made to the Casey United Methodist Church, PO Box 365, Casey, IL 62420 or to an organization of the donor's choice. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 6, 2013 at the Casey United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Penelope Barber officiating. Burial will follow in the Casey Cumberland Cemetery, Casey, IL. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., prior to the service on Monday morning at the Casey United Methodist Church, 703 N.
