Roy Lewis Rivard's Obituary
Roy Lewis Rivard, 85, of Martinsville, IL passed away at 5:42 p.m. on Monday, May 4, 2015 at his home with his son and daughter-in-law present. He was born May 9, 1929 in Big Bay, Upper Peninsula of Michigan, the son of Leo Rivard and Madeline Hillier Rivard. Survivors include his son, Raymond Thorne and his wife Denice of Sapulpa, OK; five granddaughters, and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ronald Thorne and ten brothers and sisters. Roy sailed three seasons on the ship Grand Island in the Great Lakes before he joined the US Navy. He entered the Great Lakes Naval Station in July 1946 and served his country from 1946 to 1950 in the US Navy and the US Navy Reserves from 1950 to 1954. He served on the US Navy Ship Passumpsic. He later worked as a roofer in Illinois and Wisconsin. He was a member of the United Union of Roofers, Waterproofers and Allied Workers. He was a member of the Greenup American Legion, the Greenup VFW and the Loyal Order of the Moose. At his request no services will be held, cremation rites will be accorded.
