Rosemary H Milam's Obituary
Rosemary Milam "Casey just lost another classy lady." That was what the condolence caller said. And no one has said it better. Rosie Milam was - and is, in the memory of those who love her - vibrant, sophisticated, and loaded with her own sense of personal style. She was elegant, intelligent and always, always fun to be with. She loved music and was a natural dancer. In her younger days, she could and would dance the night away to the sounds of swing and the Big Bands and the great vocalists of the day. Her home was filled with the sounds of Glenn Miller, Sinatra, Ella and Louis. To this day, her daughter (who makes her own living in the music business) prefers the music of that era to that of her own. Rosie was an avid reader who supported the Casey Library. In addition, she loved to visit her longtime friend Ruby McGinnis, and hold court with Bloody Marys on Ruby's front porch (but only on Saturdays)! She was an independent woman for her time and place. She attended art school in Chicago, and Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana. Rosie met her husband, Merle Milam, after World War II at the Casey airport, during the course of a flying lesson. (I said she was independent, remember?) Though he never taught her to fly, the dashing young veteran pilot did win her heart. They were married September 5, 1948. She was a loyal and faithful friend and companion to her husband, and she provided her daughter, Marsha with nothing but unconditional love and support. Marsha, in turn, cherishes her mother's essence and their many special moments together. She is survived by - and lives on - in her husband, Merle C. Milam of Casey, IL, who loved and loves her still; and her daughter, Marsha Milam, of Austin, TX, who adored her mother; and her beloved pet, Muffle Milam. Rosie is also survived by her sisters, Wanda Gregg of Westfield, IL, and Ruth Ann Ulrey of Jonesboro, AR. She also leaves her nephews, Richard Pate of Annapolis, MD, Robert "Bobby" Goble of Charleston, IL, and Philip Ulrey of Jonesboro, AR. Her nieces include Becky Washburn of Kansas, IL, Cathy Engelkes of Charleston, IL, and Becky Harvey of San Antonio, TX. She will be remembered fondly by her longtime friend Ruby McGinnis, of Casey, and Roanna Partlow Victor of Springfield, IL, and Roanna's children, Lauren and J.W. Celebration of Life services will be held at 11 a.m., December 9, 2003, at the Markwell Funeral Home in Casey, IL. The eulogy will be delivered by her daughter, Marsha Milam. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. today at the funeral home. Rosie will be laid to rest at the Partlow Cemetery south of Casey, IL. Graveside services will be conducted by Richard Pate and a Poem will be read by Roanna Partlow Victor. Pallbearers will be Richard Pate, Mike Young, Peter Black, Pat Tranberg, Donald Elliott, and Dr. Jason Jerabek. Memorials may be made to the Casey Township Library, 307 E. Main St., Casey, IL 62420. Markwell Funeral Home of Casey, IL is in charge of the arrangements.
