Rosalie Shawver Brown's Obituary
Rosalie Shawver Brown, 91, of Casey, Illinois went home to be with the Lord at 2:22 p.m. on Friday, June 5, 2009 at Simple Blessings in Casey, Illinois. She was born April 30, 1918 in rural Martinsville, Illinois, the daughter of Zara Shawver and Myrtle Tingley Shawver. On December 23, 1938 she married Theron B. Brown in Marion County, Illinois. He passed away on June 14, 1982. Mrs. Brown chose elementary education for her career and attended Eastern Illinois University, where she also played field hockey for the Panthers on the 1937 - 1938 team. She finished her college education at Indiana State University. She taught school at Harrison, Butternut, Cottonwood, Moriah, Hazel Dell and Monroe. She spent twenty-three years in the Casey Elementary School System. She also felt the call to ministry and educated at the Moody Bible Institute. She was ordained as a Cumberland Presbyterian Minister in 1954. She ministered Sunday in many Churches throughout Clark, Jasper and Coles County. She and her husband, who farmed for a living, also raised five sons who survive, Walter Brown and wife Linda (Patchett) Brown of Oak Ridge, TN; Kenny Brown and wife Nina (Green) Brown of Casey, IL; Theron Lamont Brown and wife Helen (Carpenter) Brown of Forrest, VA; Phillip Brown and wife Carol (Sherwood) Brown of Casey, IL and Harold Brown and wife Janie (Stanbaugh) Brown of Martinsville, IL; eleven grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. She was preceded by her parents, husband, four brothers, Charles Shawver, Harold Shawver, Dean Shawver, Kenneth Shawver and one sister, Ruth Deverick. A Celebration of Her Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at the Markwell Funeral Home, Casey, IL with Rev. Gene Ellis and Rev. Tom Marsh officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery, southwest of Casey, IL. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
