Ronald Wayne Stephen's Obituary
Ronald Wayne Stephen, 56, of Westfield, IL passed away at 12:47 a.m. on Friday, January 31, 2014 at the Indiana University Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. He was born on June 11, 1957 in Terre Haute, IN, the son of Wayne Lee Stephen and Peggy Ann Hickox Stephen. Survivors include his father, Wayne Stephen of Westfield, IL; sisters, Dianna D'Arcy and husband Kevin of Westfield, IL and Carol Roberts and husband Jim of Westfield, IL; nieces and nephews, Ryan D'Arcy and wife Tara, Gregory D'Arcy, Matthew D'Arcy, Rhys D'Arcy, Sean Roberts and wife Megan, all of Westfield, IL, and Stesha Hackett and husband Nathan of Humbolt, IL; and several great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother. Ron worked as a welder at Trailmobile in Charleston and at New Progress Tank in Arthur, IL. He was a US Navy and an Air National Guard veteran. He was a member of the Mattoon American Legion Post #88. Ron was a mason with the Westfield Masonic Lodge 1046. Ron attended the East Harrison Street Church of God where he enjoyed worshiping and the church family. Ron was a big man with a big heart. He was very artistic and creative; he made jewelry from beads to share with family and friends. He played the banjo and guitar and enjoyed blue grass music. Ron also enjoyed shooting and collecting guns and had just received his concealed carry permit. Ron participated in Civil War reenactments and had a role in the 1985 miniseries North and South. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2014, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the East Harrison Street Church of God, 17996 Harrison Street Rd, Charleston, IL. Funeral services will immediately follow at 11:30 a.m. at the church with Rev. Curt Weaver officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Charleston Paul McVey VFW Post #1592 following the funeral service. A private family burial will take place in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Westfield, IL.
