Roland LaMar Carlen's Obituary
Roland LaMar Carlen, 77 of Hazel Dell, IL passed away on Wed., Nov. 29, 2006 at St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Effingham, IL. He was born on September 13, 1929 in Decatur, IL to Rev. Fred Raymond Carlen and Opal May Andrews Carlen. On November 10, 1957 in Hazel Dell, IL he married Margaret Emma Hawker. She survives. Other survivors include his daughter, Jeanette Carlen of Hazel Dell; son, Mike Carlen of Hazel Dell; sisters, Janis Greenwell, LaDora Carlen and Sharon Carlen of Casey, IL; and stepmother, Naomi Carlen of Casey, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Raymond Carlen and sister, Loreda Malcom. Mr. Carlen was a pumper for Forrest Oil Co. for 20 years and worked in the oilfield for over 30 years. He had also worked at Velsicol and Gary Energy. Roland was a US Navy veteran having served during the Korean War. He was a member of the Church of God, Hazel Dell American Legion and Greenup VFW. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 4, 2006 at the Hazel Dell Church of Christ with Rev. Rick Emrich officiating. Burial will be in the Hazel Dell Cemetery North with Graveside Military Services by the Greenup VFW Post #4598 and the Hazel Dell American Legion Post #1230. Visitaion will be Sunday evening 4 - 7 p.m. at Markwell Funeral Home, Casey, IL. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
