Roger Roy Richards' Obituary
Roger Roy Richards, 90, of Casey, IL passed away at 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at Simple Blessings in Casey, IL. He was born October 18, 1921, in Freeport, IL, the son of Ers R. Richards and Edna Ethel Brobst Richards. On October 24, 1942, he married Leola Biggs of Westfield, IL in St. Charles, MO. She was the daughter of Roscoe and Emma Biggs. Leola passed away on September 16, 2007. Survivors include sons, Dan Richards and wife Kathy of Tucson, AZ; Jim Richards and wife Pat of Fort Wayne, IN; Gary Richards and wife Diane of Casey, IL; Jerald Richards and wife Amber of Casey, IL; Randy Richards of Terre Haute, IN; daughters, Patty Richards of Casey, IL; Cathy Kilzer and husband Rev. Roger of Casey, IL; Susan Elkins and husband Scott of Casey, IL; sister, Carol Klock of Baileyville, IL; sisters-in-law, Elnor Biggs of Westfield, IL; Helen Biggs of Casey, IL and Janice Hawkins of Casey, IL; seventeen grandchildren, thirty-three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. His parents, wife, his brothers, Jerry Richards and Delbert Richards and brothers-in-law, Lee Biggs, Dale Biggs and Doit Biggs preceded him in death. Roger was a partner in Biggs & Richards Implement dealership in Casey, IL for over thirty-five years and a lifetime farmer. He was a WWII US Army Air Force veteran. He was a member of the Casey United Methodist Church. Roger was a family man who always put his wife and children first. He enjoyed taking his family across the United States from Times Square to the California Redwoods. Before leaving for military service he was a history and math major at Indiana Central College in Indianapolis. He loved nature and gardening and was known for the little tricks he played on his grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at the Casey United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Penelope Barber and Rev. Dan Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Washington Street Cemetery, Casey, IL with Graveside Military Rites by the Casey VFW and the Hazel Dell American Legion. Visitation will be held from 12 to 2 p.m. prior to the service on Saturday at the Casey United Methodist Church, 703 N St. Hwy 49, Casey, IL. Memorial donations and contributions may be made to the Casey United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 365, 703 N. St. Hwy. 49, Casey, IL 62420.
