Robert "Bob" Gene Whalin's Obituary
Robert G. "Bob" Whalin, 71, of Martinsville, IL went to be with his Heavenly Father on Saturday, June 7, 2014 surrounded by his family and friends at Regional Hospital, Terre Haute, IN. He was born June 28, 1942 in Kansas, IL, the son of Simon Whalin and Gertrude Melvina Miller Whalin. On June 1, 1968 he married Carolyn I. Grant in Westfield, IL. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Carolyn Whalin of Martinsville, IL; Kimberly Whalin of Martinsville, IL; son, Eric Whalin and wife Lisa of Marshall, IL; granddaughter, Kaitlyn Zachary of Martinsville, IL; sister, June Grissom and husband Wayne of Frostproof, FL; and his beloved Shih Tzu, Nicky, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Simon Glenn, Tommy and Paul, and sister, Francis. Mr. Whalin was the retired owner/operator of PestCOE. Robert was a US Marine Vietnam veteran and a member of the Martinsville American Legion. He was also a member of the Willis Chapel Church of God where he served as a Deacon. Robert was an avid reader of Western novels and also enjoyed watching old Western movies. His other pastimes included target shooting, fishing and gardening, especially his tomatoes. Robert's greatest joys were living his Christian faith, loving his family and spoiling his granddaughter. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at the Greenwell Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Ledley officiating. Burial will follow in the Ridgelawn Cemetery, Martinsville, IL. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, June 13, 2014 at the Greenwell Funeral Home, 30 N. Washington St., Martinsville, IL.
