Robert Warren Patchett's Obituary
Robert Warren "Bob" Patchett, 85, died July 5, 2009 at 5:10 a.m. at Heartland Manor Nursing Center, Casey, Illinois. He was born May 17, 1924 to Carl and Ethel Buckle Patchett of Martinsville, IL. He married Helen Carper on August 5, 1943 in Evansville, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Helen Patchett on December 18, 2006; brother, Wayne Patchett and sisters, Rogene Patchett and Vivian Patchet Coleman. He is survived by son, R. Dale Patchett (Candy Putnam) of Tallahassee, FL; son, Charles E. Patchett (Connie Mathis) of Corpus Christi, TX; daughter, Carolyn "Lynn" Patchett Kelley of Martinsville, IL; grandchildren, Heather Patchett Wagoner of Ohio and fiancé John Boyd of Lichfield, England; Katie Patchett of Florida; Braden Patchett and friend Eve Pratt of Ohio; great granddaughter, Averil Wagoner of Ohio; sister, Rosemary Patchett Williams of Martinsville, IL, sister in law, Ella Mae Holmes Patchett of Jasonville, IN; several nieces, nephews and many, many friends. He mentored several young people throughout his life, passing on his love of the Lord Jesus Christ, his values and his life skills. Bob graduated from Martinsville High School in 1943 and entered the United States Navy, serving as a naval gunner aboard Merchant Marine supply ships in the Pacific during WWII, 1943-1945. Upon returning home he worked at Carper Brothers Garage as a mechanic, the Velsicol Chemical Corporation for twenty-nine years, Heartland Furniture Co., and the Jim Goble Farm. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and trap shooting, breaking his lifetime goal of 10,000 targets. He served as a Cub Scout Master, was a member of the Martinsville Bible Church and served as a trustee, was a Martinsville City Councilman, a member of Round Grove Gun Club, and was a member of the Martinsville Ag Fair Board of Directors, serving as Arts Hall supervisor and groundskeeper. He was a lifetime member and former Commander of the Martinsville American Legion Post 515 and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5762 in Casey, IL Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at the Martinsville Bible Church with Pastor David Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Martinsville, IL with Graveside Military Rites by the Martinsville American Legion Post 515. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the Greenwell Funeral Home, Martinsville, IL. Memorial donations and contributions may be made to the Martinsville Bible Church Awana Program, Heartland Manor Nursing Center Activity Department and the Martinsville American Legion Post 515.
