Robert Helfrich's Obituary
Robert D. Helfrich- HDR Big Bob' Of Casey, Illinois- formerly of Crown Point, Indiana He started "Suckin' Air" on November 22, 1944 in Gary, Indiana and "Put it in the Wind" on March 26, 2009 in Effingham, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his wife Deana L. Helfrich, father William L. Helfrich, mother Sylvia A. Helfrich, as well as his beloved companion Bear. He is survived by his five children: Shawn Helfrich (Steve Lopez), Dawn Elish (Casey), Daniel (Boo) Helfrich, and Robbin Helfrich, all of Crown Point, Indiana; and Robert Joos of Highland, Indiana. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Ashley Borgioli, Jessica Borgioli, Taylor Claypool, Danielle Page, Miranda Elish, Bryce Helfrich, Madilynn Elish and Brady Elish. In addition, he is survived by his two siblings: brother William Helfrich and sister Cheryl Marckese (Bernie) and many nieces and nephews. He has left behind his friend in life Reggie Helfrich, the Junkyard Dogs', and many countless friends. He was a member of the Pipefitters Local 597, the United States Army (1966-1968), the Masons, Shriners of North America, the Moose Lodge, and VFW Post 5762. Big Bob was a great family man who would befriend anyone and rarely met a stranger. He enjoyed fishing, hangin' with his friends, and above all would "Live to Ride and Ride to Live." Bob will be deeply missed by all. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 30, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. at Markwell Funeral Home in Casey, Illinois. Military rites will be conducted at the funeral home following the funeral service by the Casey VFW Post #5762 and Hazel Dell American Legion Post # 1230. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. Memorial donations and contributions in honor of Bob may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children at 2001 South Lindbergh Boulevard, St. Louis, Missouri, 63131-3597.
