Robert Raymond Gruning's Obituary
Robert Raymond Gruning, 76, of Casey, Illinois passed away at 4:55 a.m. on Sunday, March 30, 2008 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion, Illinois. He was born on May 17, 1931 in Springfield, Oregon, the son of Charles Clifford Gruning and Katherine Alice Rathbun Gruning. On May 2, 1954 he married Cyrena Elizabeth Crampton in Casey, Illinois. Survivors include his wife, Cyrena Gruning of Casey, IL; daughter, Maralina Mason and husband Larry of Belair, IL; son, Charles "Chuck" Gruning and wife Carmen of Casey, IL; daughter, Fon Gruning of Casey, IL; daughter, Jacqueline "Jackie" Davis and husband Denny of Martinsville, IL; grandchildren, Stanley Mason, Sheena Hammond and her husband Jacob, Darcey Davis, Eric Duvall, Dennis Davis, Shawn Gruning, and Dayla Davis. He was blessed with four great grandchildren, Mikayla Hammond, Cassandra Mason, Brianna Hammond, and Olivia Hammond. His brother, Wayne Gruning of Blue River, Oregon, and a sister Wilma Dunn of Sparks, Nevada also survive him. His parents and a brother, Clifford Gruning, preceded him in death. Bob enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1948. He served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars as a Tech Sergeant. He was honored for his service with the 19th Tactical Air Support Squadron at Bien Hoa Air Base in Vietnam. Bob was a member of the Casey VFW, the Hazel Dell American Legion, and a member of the Casey United Methodist Church. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at the Markwell Funeral Home, Casey, IL, with the Rev. Dr. Penelope Barber officiating. Burial will be in Mount Cemetery, south of Casey, IL with Graveside Military Rites by the Casey VFW and Hazel Dell American Legion. Visitation will be on Tuesday evening from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Casey United Methodist Church, 703 N. Route 49, Casey, IL 62420.
