Robert Wendell Downey's Obituary
Robert Wendell Downey, 84, of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas formerly of Martinsville, Illinois passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2011 in Arkansas. He was born February 4, 1927 in Martinsville, IL, the son of Harry Lester Downey and Fayette Fasig Downey. On September 21, 1981, he married Lois Thompson in Benton, Arkansas. Survivors include his wife of thirty years, Lois Downey of Hot Springs Village, AR; son, Robert Downey and wife Lou Ann of Martinsville, IN; daughter, Andrea Brooke and husband Randall of Indianapolis, IN; brother, Gary Downey and wife Ann of Frisco, TX; sister, Maralee Whitney of Springfield, MO and grandchildren, Alison Maas, Melissa Lee, James Jeffrey Downey II, Danielle Downey, and Shawn Downey. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, son, James Jeffrey Downey and brother, Bill Downey. Robert was a retired Air Traffic Controller with the Federal Aviation Administration. He was a US Navy WWII veteran. He was a member of the VFW in Hot Springs Village, AR and the Elks Club. He was a member and past Commander of the American Legion in Lawrenceville, IL. Robert was the first Eagle Scout in Clark County, IL. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at the Greenwell Funeral Home, Martinsville, IL with Rev. Billie Ray Ulrey officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Ohio Cemetery, rural Clark County, IL. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
