Richard William Bennett's Obituary
Richard William Bennett, 82, of Westfield, IL passed away at 6:55 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, Coles County, IL. He was born December 6, 1928 in Westfield, IL, the eighth of nine children born to Harry Samuel and Ada Tennessee Stilwell Bennett. On February 14, 1952 he married Ruth Ann Honn in Westfield, IL. Survivors include his wife of fifty-nine years, Ruth Ann Bennett of Westfield, IL; daughter, Marsha (Scott) Thomas of Sigel, IL; son, Richard Michael (Terry) Bennett of Watkinsville, GA; daughter, Carol Finney of Bloomington, IL; grandchildren, Kim (Matt) Hubeck of Bolton Valley, VT; Steven Thomas of Sigel, IL; Daniel Bennett of Atlanta, GA; Brooke Bennett of Watkinsville, GA; Matthew Finney of Chicago, IL; Melissa (Andrew) Brownback of Buffalo Grove, IL; great grandson, Miles Waldorf of Strasburg, IL; sisters, Opal Littlejohn of Chelsea, MI and Priscilla (Pat) Johnson of Decatur, IL; brother, Harvey Bennett of Chelsea, MI; several nieces and nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Charles, Frederick, H. Samuel Bennett and sisters, Louise Harmon and Irene McLeaster. Richard graduated from Kansas High School in 1947. He was a US Army Korean War veteran. He worked as a foreman for Trailmobile in Charleston, IL for several years. Richard was proud to be a lifetime member of the Westfield United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the Westfield American Legion. Funeral services honoring and celebrating his life will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at the Markwell Chapel in Westfield, IL with Rev. Walter Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Westfield, IL with graveside military honors by the Kansas and Westfield American Legion. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the Markwell Chapel, N. Washington St., Westfield, IL.
