Raymond Irvin Hall's Obituary
Raymond Irvin Hall, Jr., 84, of Casey, formerly of Urbana and Savoy, Illinois passed away at 6:54 a.m. Sunday, May 11, 2008 at St. Anthony's Hospital in Effingham IL. He was born May 28, 1923 in Philadelphia, PA, a son of Raymond Irvin Hall, Sr. and Charlotte Miller Hall. The family settled in Harrisburg, PA shortly thereafter. On May 21, 1949 he married Marjorie Merle Chickadonz of Casey, IL in Henderson, KY. She passed away on May 26, 2003. Survivors include brother Robert Hall (Doris) of Hummelstown, PA; brother Ronald Hall (Verna) of Salem, VA; brother Roger Hall (Wilma) of Elizabethtown, PA; brother Reed Hall (Milly) of Milroy, PA; brother Ross Hall of Asheboro, NC; daughter Diana Metcalf (Robert) of Potomac, MD; son Steven Hall (Cathy) of Cincinnati, OH; daughter Lisa Durham (Edwin) of Chicago, IL; grandson Jeremy Hall (Heather), and great-granddaughter Olivia Hall of Eldorado, OH; and grandson Ryan Hall of Dayton, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Richard Hall, and two sisters, Betty Colestock and Barbara Herman. Ray enlisted in the U.S. Naval Aviation cadet program in 1942. He served as a pilot during W.W. II based in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska. He later joined the U.S. Coast Guard, performing duty as a search and rescue pilot throughout the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico. He flew B-17's, seaplanes, amphibious aircraft, and helicopters. He served as a Reserve Officer while attending the University of Illinois. He retired from the U.S. Coast Guard in 1983 with rank of Commander. Since 1977, he operated a specialty welding shop in Casey. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at the Markwell Funeral Home, Casey, IL with Rev. Dan Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Casey Cumberland Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Graveside Military Rites will be performed by the Casey V.F.W. and the Hazel Dell American Legion. Memorial donations may be made to the Casey V.F.W. Post #5762, 300 S. Central Ave., Casey, IL 62420.
