Phyllis Berniece Warner Walsh's Obituary
Phyllis Berniece Warner Zakowski Walsh, 75, of Casey, IL passed away on Monday, September 14, 2009 at Barnes Hospital, St. Louis, MO. She was born April 2, 1934 in Cumberland County, Illinois, the daughter of Clyde Warner and Dona Easton Warner. On September 18, 1954, she married Robert E. Zakowski in Casey, IL. He passed away on August 8, 1967. She later married Francis E. "Tony" Walsh on February 18, 1972 in Springfield, IL. He passed away on December 9, 1996. Phyllis was fondly called "Bertie" by her family. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah "Deb" Smith of Casey, IL and her two devoted granddaughters, Devinna Smith of Casey, IL and Calisha Smith of Mattoon, IL; son, Robert "Bob" Zakowski and wife Sherry of Findlay, IL and her two grandsons, Robbi Zakowski and Chris Zakowski of Findlay, IL; great granddaughter, Natalie Zakowski of Pana, IL; brothers, Donald Warner and wife Faye of Greenup, IL, Carl Warner and wife Jonnie of Toledo, IL; sisters, Norma Stewart and husband Frank of Casey, IL, Bonnie Brandenburg and husband Bob of Toledo, IL, and her youngest sister, Judy Lewis of Casey, IL; sisters in law, Joy Warner of Greenup, IL and Wilma Ferguson of Martinsville, IL; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Her parents, husbands, brothers, Leland Warner and Ivan Warner; son in law, Carl Smith and brother in law, Duke Lewis preceded her in death. Bertie was a life long member of the Hazel Dell Church of God. Bertie worked several years for the Army Corp of Engineers and security for Lithia Springs at Lake Shelbyville. She lived most of her life in Clark, Coles and Cumberland counties while caring for others. She loved life and was a very hardworking waitress and caregiver for several family members and friends. Bertie was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Graveside services and burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2009 at the Casey Cumberland Cemetery, Casey, IL with Rev. Gene Ellis officiating. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home prior to the graveside service. Memorial donations and contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2509 S.
