Paul Duane "Pete" Mitchell, 86, of Casey, IL passed away at 5:05 p.m. on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at Heartland Nursing Center, Casey, IL. He was born May 25, 1928 in Casey, IL, the son of Denzel Mitchell and Mamie Mumford Mitchell. On November 7, 1947 he married Rosemary Hickox in Hogue Town, IL. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Rosemary Mitchell of Casey, IL; son, Roger Mitchell and wife Sue of Casey, IL; daughter, Paula Tipsword and husband Will of Casey, IL; daughter in law, Kay Mitchell of Casey, IL; foster son, Tim Posey of Paris, IL; sister, Virginia (Dean) Ray of Las Cruces, NM; grandchildren, Mindy (Dennis) Miller of Casey, IL, Amy Tipsword of Robinson, IL, Kim (Patrick) Brasier of Casey, IL, Jennifer (Chris) Ellington of Martinsville, IL, Zachary (Kaitlyn) Tipsword of Casey, IL and Clinton (Chimere) Mitchell of Centreville, VA; great grandchildren, Dale Miller, Lexie Black, Emma Miller, Garrett Miller, Addie Brasier, Tori Ellington, Finley Tipsword, Jaleel Mitchell and Chyahh Mitchell. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Roy Allen Mitchell; brother, Lee Mitchell and sisters, Shirley Smith and Imogene Allison. Pete was a graduate of Casey High School. He worked in the oilfields his entire life working for various companies and eventually owning his own drilling rigs. Pete was a 32nd degree Mason and was a member of Quails Unlimited and the NRA. He played and coached baseball and softball. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and watching his grandchildren in their sporting events. Masonic services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 9, 2014 by the Casey Masonic Lodge followed by a funeral service at the Markwell Funeral Home with Rev. Gene Southard and Rev. Tom Marsh officiating. Burial will follow in the Washington Street Cemetery, Casey, IL. Visitation will be held from 12 to 2 p.m. on Monday prior to the service at the Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL. The Mitchell family requests casual attire for the services. The family requests memorial donations can be made to the Casey Park "Releaf" Program, 304 East Van Buren, Casey, IL 62420. Funds donated will be used to plant new trees in the Casey Fairview Park.
