Opal Marie Bolin's Obituary
Opal Marie Bolin, 93 of Casey, Illinois went home on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Casey Health Care Center, Casey, IL. She was born the 7th of 18 children on November 2, 1920 in Terre Haute, IN to James Joseph McGrew and Maude Gladys (Nail) McGrew. The family resided in the Twelve Points area of Terre Haute as she grew up. She married Everett Edward Bolin Sr. July 29, 1939 in Terre Haute, IN. They moved to Casey, Illinois in 1955 where they made their home. Everett passed away on March 2, 1996. Her family was the love of her life. She loved working at home and in her garden always willing to work along side of Everett doing whatever needed to be done. Every now and then you could catch her dancing and singing as she did her work. She loved to play games, especially cards (with rules according to Opal), with her grandchildren. She would love to tell childhood stories of being raised in a family of 18 brothers and sisters and wouldn't have it any other way. She loved painting, tap dancing, gardening and floral arranging. She was a decorator and a lover of music. When asked to describe her, people used words such as "loving and sweet, yet feisty and full of spunk." She was a beautiful soul, and she will be greatly missed. Opal's faith in God sustained her through her life's journey. She loved to share how she loved her Savior. She belonged to the Moriah Church of God. She was a former Sunday school teacher and a former Girl Scout Leader. She is survived by her sons, Ed Bolin Jr. (Judy) of Casey, IL, and Frank Bolin of Greenup, IL. Daughters, Sharon (Ray) Finney of Greenup, IL, Dianna (Eddie) Hammond of Sullivan, IN, Darla (Fred) Hammond of Casey, IL, 14 Grandchildren, Kim (Bryan) Stewart. Rod (Julie) Finney, Jim (Diane) Bolin, Troy (Laura) Bolin, Stacy (Steve) Hollis, Joshua Hammond, Sonja (Tony) Tedrick, Rhonda (Nick) Goeckner, Dan Hammond, Cory Bolin, Jennifer (Wes) Richards, Chris (Joe) Hickox, Mariah Bolin and Zach Bolin. 31 great-grandchildren and 6 great- great grandchildren. Three brothers, Darrell McGrew of Terre Haute, IN, Leroy McGrew of Portland, OR, and Don (Rose) McGrew of Fossil, OR. Four Sisters, Lillian Guthrie of Las Vegas, NV, Mary Ann Freels of Albany, GA, Evelyn Mitchell of South Dakota, and Betty Cook (Paul) of Terre Haute, IN. Opal is preceded in death by her husband Everett (Ed) Bolin Sr., three sons: Danny Lee Bolin, Lee Edward Bolin, Kenneth Ray Bolin and one daughter, Carol Sue Bolin. Brothers: George, Woody, Jim, David, Richard, Bill, Larry and Sisters: Helen, Ruby, Edna and her parents James and Maude (Nail) McGrew. A celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at the Markwell Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie Hammond officiating. Burial will follow in the Casey Cumberland Cemetery, Casey, IL. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL.
