Norma Kathlyn Veteto's Obituary
Norma Kathlyn Veteto, age 92, of Casey, IL passed away at 10:12 a.m. on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at Heartland Nursing Center, Casey, IL. She was born January 30, 1927 in Gary, IN, the daughter of Homer Lafayette Daughhetee and Sallie Lola Grafton Daughhetee. On August 31, 1945 she married Hobart H. "Red" Veteto at the U.B. Church in Casey, IL. He passed away on December 22, 1998. Survivors include her sons, Gary H. Veteto (Dena) of St. Martinville, LA and Tracy H. Veteto (Nina) of Candler, NC; grandchildren, Hallie Veteto, Mia Veteto and Wren Veteto and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ret. Col. Hobart H. "Red" Veteto and special friend, Howard "Hardy" Snodgrass and many classmates. Norma was a proud graduate of Casey High School class of 1944. She worked for L&N Rail Road and Lawrenceville Courier Journal before joining her husband in Japan. He served in the US Army during the occupation of Japan; they would later serve tours in Germany. Upon returning to the United States in 1975, Norma worked as a DJ at the college radio station in Gallatin, TN where she received her Associate Degree in Communications with honors. After her husband"™s death in 1998, Norma returned to Casey where she could enjoy spending time with classmates and cousins. Norma was an active and proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution National Society. She was Past Regent of Colonel Jethro Sumner Chapter NSDAR in Gallatin, TN and a member of Walter Burdick Chapter of NSDR in Clark County, IL. Norma was a lifetime member of Casey VFW Auxiliary, the Red Hat Society and enjoyed genealogy. She was well known for her collection of hats she loved to wear. A Memorial Service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at Markwell Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 12 noon to 1 p.m. prior the service on Saturday at Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL. At her request Norma"™s ashes will be interred in the Casey Cumberland Cemetery, Casey, IL beside her husband.
