N Rosemary Garrett's Obituary
N. Rosemary Garrett, 86, of Casey, IL passed away at 4:44 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at Regional Hospital in Terre Haute, IN. She was born to L. Birdie Grove and Gertrude Edna Hinkle Grove, Clark County, IL on November 23, 1928. On April 1, 1945 she married Kenneth Ray Garrett in rural Martinsville, IL in the home of her parents. He passed away on December 22, 2012. They were married almost sixty-eight years. Survivors include her children, Jeanne (Phillip) Gardner of Morton, IL; Barbara (Dennis) Ellermann of Vincennes, IN; Shirley (Keith) Goodwin of Martinsville, IL and Jerry (Dianne) Garrett of Benton, IL; ten grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, one niece, one nephew and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, granddaughter, Becky Garrett; infant sister, Geraldine Grove; sister, Maetta Grove Creed Dively and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Roy and Ava Anderson Garrett. As Rosemary was growing up in the city of Martinsville, IL she was known as a young lady of integrity with a good work ethic. Many people hired her to do various things for them such as cleaning houses, sewing, doing their hair, and picking strawberries. She wasn't afraid to learn on the job. In high school Home Economics was her favorite class. For a time after her children were in school she worked at the pharmacy in Casey owned by Vic Elliott. Then she worked many years at TRW first in Marshall and then in Casey. After her marriage she lived in Casey for the rest of her life, mostly living two miles east of Route 49 on US 40 in the house which she and Kenneth built in 1963. She and Kenneth enjoyed spending some winters in Florida. Throughout the years Rosemary enjoyed her sewing, cooking and gardening in her many flower beds, which she and Kenneth created with rocks they had gathered in Indiana and Missouri. Each year she planted a colorful array of flowers in them. Every year their large vegetable plot and fruit trees yielded lots of produce, which she so generously shared with others. Her produce and baked goodies were good sellers at fundraisers for the United Pentecostal Church in Casey where she was a member for many years serving as the treasurer. Rosemary dearly loved her family. Oh, the meals she served, making sure that she fixed everyone's favorites. She faithfully sent cards to every one of her family for birthdays, anniversaries, and graduations. Her great- grandchildren looked forward to the brand new dollar bill she would enclose in their cards. She was a woman of faith who loved her Lord dearly and lived for Him and shared her faith. This world has lost a mighty warrior of prayer. Her passing will leave a hole in the hearts of her family, but her influence in their lives will live on. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at the Markwell Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Macedonia Cemetery, Casey, IL.
