Morris "Shorty" Logue's Obituary
Morris “Shorty” Logue was a loving husband and father. He was called home to heaven to be with his Lord and Savior at the age of 85 on December 7, 2025. He was born on February 6, 1940 in Olney, IL to Olaf and Ellen (Graham) Logue.
Shorty was given his nickname by his dad at 2 years old and ironically, he was not short! He grew up in Hazel Dell and Casey, IL and graduated from Casey High School in 1958. In his early years he and his best buddy Cecil Martin spent most of their time fishing, hunting and riding horses through woods. He was a talented basketball and football player. After graduating from high school, he attended college in Oklahoma at the Panhandle Agricultural & Mechanical College where he was the president of the rodeo program and was a calf roper. He transferred to Oklahoma State University (OSU) and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in animal husbandry in 1962.
Shorty moved back to Casey after getting married to Carole Jacobs and started a family. He worked as a feed salesman for FS and Moormans feed company and he and his wife Carole opened the Logue’s Cowboy Supply store on their property. He was the president of the Saddle Club in Casey for several years and was passionate about horses and training horses. He was a collector of knives and paintings of racehorses and made his own frames with his own special artistic flare. He later started his own business as a carpenter and worked for many residents of Casey. Shorty was also an avid bass fisherman and loved traveling to Florida with his second wife Vickie Slater Logue to fish lake Toho. They would always compete to see who would catch the most bass and Shorty seldom won! He and Vickie loved their vegetable garden and he was known for his tomatoes! Shorty had a wonderful sense of humor and was an awesome storyteller.
He is survived by his loving wife Vickie; son Jay Dee (Lavonne) Logue and daughter Tonda Logue; step-grandchildren Allyson Rogers, Sheena Taylor, Zach Purpura and Luke Purpura and 5 step-great grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces and a nephew and brothers-in-law Dave (Lynn) Slater and Tony (Lisa) Slater. He is preceded in death by his parents Olaf and Ellen Logue, brother Jim (Betty) Logue, sister Doris (Olen) Chapman and his first wife Carole Jacobs Logue.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12 p.m. on Monday, December 15, 2025 at Markwell Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Marsh officiating. Burial following at the Washington Street Cemetery in Casey, IL. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. on Monday prior to the funeral service at Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL.
