Mildred J Petty Tyler's Obituary
Mildred J. Petty Tyler, 92, of Casey, IL passed away at 3:55 p.m. on Friday, December 2, 2011 at Heartland Nursing Center in Casey, IL. She was born March 30, 1919, in Casey, IL, the daughter of Merrill Redman Petty and Flossie Maude Heath Petty. On June 22, 1940, Mildred married Ted George Tyler in St. Charles, MO. He passed away on October 18, 1997. Her parents, brother, Moffett Heath Petty and a son, Melvin Keath Tyler also preceded her in death. Survivors include son, Stanlee C. Tyler of Poughkeepsie, NY and daughter, Jody Johnson and husband Steve of Charleston, IL. Surviving grandchildren are Stanlee Tyler, Jr. and wife Sara of Hyde Park, NY; David Johnson and wife Tara of Charleston, IL; Daniel Johnson and wife Shannon of Charleston, IL; Darin Johnson and wife Sheri of Chester, MD; Danice Brooke Roberts and husband Mark of Potomac, IL; Margo B. Tyler-McWilliams and husband Scott of Gurnee, IL; Carolyn Joan Lechusza and husband Alan of Carlsbad, CA. Great grandchildren include Connor Johnson, Darcy Johnson, Josie Johnson, Alex Johnson, Braden R. Goetsch, Will Collazo, Maddie McWilliams, Kayla Collazo, Sage Lechusza and two great grandsons on the way. Mildred is also survived by her brother, Jack K. Callahan of Terre Haute, IN; sister in law, Mildred Tyler Bell of Terre Haute, IN; widow of Melvin Keath, Sharon Hermanson of Myakka City, FL and many nieces and nephews. Mildred was a registered nurse. She will always be fondly remembered as the "school nurse" for the Casey and Martinsville School Districts from 1949 to 1983, when she retired. Mildred was influential in guiding many people in to health profession fields. She continued to work during the 2010 - 2011 school year, providing hearing and vision testing in the Casey-Westfield school district. She was a member of the NEA, CEA, IEA, the Clark County Retired Teachers Association, the Illinois Retired Teachers Association, the Nightingales Organization for Retired Nurses, the Casey United Methodist Church and formerly served on the Clark County Board of Health. Mildred received her nursing degree in 1940 from the Union Hospital School of Nursing; she received her Public Health degree from Indiana University in 1949 and her Board of Governor's Teaching degree from Eastern Illinois University in 1973. In 2010, Mildred was one of the 90 year old alumni honored guests at the Casey Westfield Gala. In 2007 she received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Casey Alumni Association. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at the Markwell Funeral Home, Casey, IL with Rev. Dan Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Casey Cumberland Cemetery, Casey, IL. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL. Memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2001 S. Lindbergh Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63131 or to the Mildred Tyler Scholarship Fund (for future nursing students).
