Melvin Ross Gilbert's Obituary
Melvin Ross Gilbert, 85, of Casey, IL passed away at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, June 5, 2015 at Casey Health Care Center, Casey, IL. He was born July 11, 1929 in Cumberland County, Illinois the son of Marion Otto Gilbert and Josie Marie Hepner Gilbert. Survivors include several nephews; special friends and neighbors, Rose Penrod of Casey, IL; Jess and Norma Icenogle of Mattoon, IL; Don and Judy Kelsheimer of Casey, IL; his Casey First Baptist Church family and his extended family at Casey Health Care Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Jane Walters and three half-brothers. Melvin was a lifelong resident of the Casey area. He attended the Wade School. He was retired from the Ettlebrick Shoe Factory after 35 years and mowed lawns for many years. Melvin was a very proud, private and quiet person who always had a smile on his face. He was always willing to help out a neighbor and could be seen out walking on most days many times pulling his lawn mower behind him. Melvin was a member of the Casey First Baptist Church. He received Jesus as his Savior in May 2010 at the Casey First Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at the Markwell Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Marsh officiating. Burial will follow in the Hazel Dell South Cemetery, Hazel Dell, IL. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon at the Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL. Memorial donations may be made to the Casey First Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 187, Casey, IL 62420.
