Mary Fern Ennis' Obituary
The train bound for Glory Land pulled into the Casey Health Care Center on Sunday, September 11, 2011. Mary Fern Ennis, 97, of Oilfield, IL answered her Heavenly Father's beckoning and boarded the train at 7:10 p.m. Mom's favorite song was "Looking For A City." The Glory Train knows where that city is, and on it's arrival she stepped down onto the streets of gold. She should be settled in her mansion in time to celebrate her 98th birthday on Wednesday. Mary Fern Ennis was born September 14, 1913, in Clark County, IL, the daughter of Jesse R. Veach and Amanda Jane McNulty Veach. On November 23, 1934, she married Elbert Grier Ennis in Oilfield, IL. He passed away on July 30, 1982. Survivors include sons, Theron (Pete) Ennis and wife Sharon of Casey, IL; Dwight Ennis and wife Leeila of Westfield, IL; Morris Ennis and wife Mary Kay of Decatur, IL; daughters, Ruth Ann Beasley of Oilfield, IL; Sharon Stephen and husband Warren of Oilfield, IL; Martha Menser and husband Jerry of Westfield, IL; Zoe Williams and friend Garry Chittick of Clinton, IN; sister in law, Jerri Veach of Westfield, IL; twenty grandchildren; forty great grandchildren; one great great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her dearly beloved husband, Elbert, two sisters, four brothers including her twin, Harry, son in law, Gene Beasley, daughter in law, Joyce Sawyer Ennis; one granddaughter and two great grandchildren. Mrs. Ennis was a homemaker and later in life operated the Oilfield Store with her husband, Elbert. She was famous for her bologna sandwiches at the store. She was a member of the Willis Chapel Church of God for over 75 years. She was also a member of the Willis Chapel Ladies Aid. Mary never wanted to miss a service to sing and praise her Jesus. She enjoyed driving Miss Serena Connelly to town and to church. Her family was very special to her and she always looked forward to spending time with them. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 15, 2011 at the Markwell Funeral Home, Casey, IL with Rev. Dan Ledley officiating. Burial will follow in the Washington Street Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL. Memorial donations and contributions in her honor may be made to the Willis Chapel Church of God, 14446 N 470th St., Martinsville, IL 62442, where Mary and her husband Elbert worshipped for many years, guiding their seven children on the spiritual pathway or Kathy's Dream, Alzheimer's Garden, c/o Casey Health Care Center, 100 NE 15th St., Casey, IL 62420.
