Martha Ellen Rukes' Obituary
Martha Ellen Rukes, 89, of Casey, Illinois passed away at 2:15 p.m. on Friday, April 4, 2008 at Heartland Manor Nursing Center in Casey, Illinois. She was born on April 19, 1918 in Rosedale, Indiana, the daughter of Leslie Oscar Cox and Margaret Almira Boatman Cox. On November 30, 1941 she married Herman Loren Rukes in St. Louis, Missouri. He passed away on January 16, 1979. Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Rue and husband John of Peotone, Illinois and Susan Hawkins and husband Richard of Casey, Illinois; four grandchildren, Cherie Newton and husband Tom of Peotone, Illinois, Michael Rue and wife Lisa of Naperville, Illinois, Ryan Hawkins of San Diego, California and Steven Hawkins and fiancée Neeley Hupp of Casey, Illinois; four great grandchildren, Justin and Jason Newton of Peotone, Illinois and Gus and Luke Rue of Naperville, Illinois. Her parents, husband, son Mark Leslie Rukes and brother Wayne Cox preceded her in death. Martha was a former teacher and bookkeeper at Casey Medical Center for many years. She was a member of the Casey Women's Club, Casey United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Casey Country Club Tuesday Afternoon Bridge Club, Wednesday Night Bridge Club and Marathon Bridge League. Visitation will be on Sunday, April 6, 2008 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Markwell Funeral Home, Casey, Illinois. Funeral Services will be private with burial in Casey-Cumberland Cemetery.
