Remembrances from the family: Marsha is remembered by her oldest son Doug McCord: My Mother always knew. She knew where I was, who I was with and what I was up to. To this day I don't know how she did it. No cell phones, no Facebook, no internet. But she knew. Moms always know where you've been. I tried to get things past her when I was young and even though she might let something go, I would think, "She knows". Yet, I honestly feel like I was given a tremendous amount of freedom when I was young. Mom wasn't afraid to let me make a mistake as long as she knew I would learn something from it. I have scars from enumerable bicycle crashes, stitches from busted chins and elbows and lumpy knuckles from playing ball. I don't regret any of them and I have some really good stories to tell because my mom was not afraid to let me "run". Doug lives in Oblong, Illinois with his wife Tracey. They have two daughters Bethany and Jennifer. Her middle son, Duane McCord remembers: My mom's quirky sense of humor. She was a keen observer of life and loved to keep up with the latest world news and politics. She had a way of making a beautiful connection with each grandchild. Mom would try most things once and encourage us to do the same and for that I am grateful. Duane lives in Imperial, Missouri with his wife Kelly and two children, Nathan and Noelle. Duane and Kelly's third child, Nicholas, preceded his Nanny in death in 2007. Her youngest child and daughter, Darra McCord Walker, remembers: Mom always had time for me. She was always in the stands showing support for me at school events, and she never missed a parent-teacher conference. Mom was also a worrier. She worried about everything and checked things twice. She worried a lot about germs, and to this day I wash grapes with soap, thanks to her. Everyone loved Mom's noodles and angel food cake, two things often requested by her grandchildren for their birthday dinners. Known to her grandkids as Nanny, she spent countless hours with them building forts out of blankets and teaching them silly songs and rhymes. She loved to play board games and cards with her grandkids - all of whom are exceptional in math and logic thanks to playing games with their Nanny. Mom kept up with technology, using the latest to keep in touch with her children and grandchildren. Darra lives in Paris, Illinois with her husband Chuck and two children Charlee and J.C. Marsha's husband Carrol remembers: Marsha provided a wonderful home and family for me. I am thankful to still have our three children to help me.
