Marilyn Louise"Mary Lou" Hawkins' Obituary
Marilyn Louise "Mary Lou" Hawkins, age 87, of Martinsville, IL formerly of Hartford City, IN entered eternal rest at 3:38 a.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2024 surrounded by family at her daughters home. She was born March 15, 1937 in Fairmount, IN; the daughter of David Jones and Juanita Shattuck Jones. On October 28, 1956 she married Randie J. Hawkins Sr. in Marion, IN; they shared sixty-three years of marriage before his passing on July 26, 2020.
Survivors include her children, Larry Hawkins Sr. (Tona) of Hartford City, IN and Connie Beeman-Hartman (Brett) of Martinsville, IL; grandchildren, Larry Hawkins Jr, Jennifer Eberly, Stephen McNutt, Gene McNutt Jr., Andrew McNutt, Anthony Hawkins, Michael Beeman (Jessica), Andrew Beeman (Cayleigh), Joshua Beeman (Kimberly), and Joseph Beeman (Devan); forty-four great grandchildren; brother, Charlie Jones (Barb) of FL; sisters, Helen Ruff (Frank) of FL and Viola Shaffer of TX; several nieces and nephews; and her church family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; sons, Randie J. Hawkins Jr. and Tony Hawkins; grandsons, Samuel Hawkins, Christopher Hawkins, and Aaron Hawkins; siblings, David Jones, Martha M. Landis, Marcella A. Fisher, Raymond Jones, George Jones, and John Paul Jones; and son-in-law, Larry Beeman Jr.
Marilyn attended Fairmount High School and was a proud classmate of James Dean. She was a homemaker and custodian in the Florida School System for ten years. She was a faithful member of the Montpelier Church of the Nazarene. Mary Lou loved her family and was so proud of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Marilyn and her husband were big supporters of the Blackford Teams and enjoyed watching kids play sports; they won the Good Sportsmanship Pin, presented by Jeff and Bernie Sones in 2018 for attending games and being super fans. She was gifted at crochet and enjoyed sharing her creations with friends and family. If Mary Lou wasn 't home, chances were that she was visiting with friends at the Hartford City Senior Citizen Center or was giving puzzles to children in town as many knew her for having a basket full of puzzles on her walker.
Celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. EST on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at Montpelier Church of the Nazarene, 440 N. Standard Blvd., Montpelier, IN. Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. EST on Monday, September 9, 2024 at Grant Memorial Park in Marion, IN with Pastor Jesse Johnson officiating.
