Marie Seed's Obituary
Marie Ann (Housel) Seed, 74, passed away at 12:15 a.m., Tuesday, September 21, 2010, at The Champaign County Nursing Home, Champaign, Ill. Services celebrating her life are at 2 p.m., Friday, September 24, 2010, at Faith United Methodist Church, 1719 South Prospect, Champaign, with the Rev. Wes Wilkey and the Rev. Mark Kaley officiating. Visitation is from 12 p.m. until service time. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery and Mausoleum. Marie was born on December 23, 1935, to John Ward Housel and Maurine Griffith Housel in Sioux City, Iowa. She had fond memories of growing up on an Indian Reservation where her parents were teaching at that time. Marie graduated from Bridgeport Township High School in 1953 and attended Eastern Illinois University. On December 25, 1956, she married Robert E. Seed, who survives. Born to this union were Sara, Champaign; Scott, Chicago; Sean and wife, Staci, Deerfield; and four grandsons, Noah, 9; Benjamin, 7; Matthew, 3; and Joey 2, all of Deerfield. Her only other surviving relative is her cousin, Patty Fuqua of Charleston, West Virginia. Marie was a devoted wife, mother, homemaker, and proud grandmother. She resided in Casey, Ill. for 40 years. As a member of the Casey United Methodist Church, Marie served on the building committee for the construction of the new church and was instrumental in starting the after school Mustard Seed program. Marie also served on the Board of Directors of Heartland Manor Nursing Home. Additionally, she was a member of the Casey Women's Civic League, the Ladies Bridge Club and the Casey Country Club. She was an avid reader and Fighting Illini fan. For the past 10 years, she resided in Champaign and was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church.
