Marie Emrich Goben's Obituary
Marie Emrich Goben, 97, of Casey, Illinois passed away at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday, February 14, 2010 at her residence. She was born March 11, 1912 in Wiggins, Colorado; the daughter of Perry C. Emrich and Myrta Mae Saylor Emrich . On December 22, 1936, she married Charles William "Pete" Goben in Casey, Illinois. He passed away on November 8, 2000. She is survived by her son, Charles William "Bill" Goben and wife Jo Ann Higgins Goben of Casey, IL; grandson, Matthew William Goben and wife Heather Nicole Goben of Indianapolis, IN; granddaughter, Eryn Jo Goben Meiers and husband Ian Robert Meiers of Twickenham, Middlesex, England, UK; great grandchildren, Jackson William Goben and Elizabeth Marie Goben of Indianapolis, IN; five nieces and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, John Emrich and sister, Ruth Glasby. Marie and her family moved from Wiggins, CO to Osceola, MO then resettled to Casey, IL in 1920. Marie was a graduate of Casey High School Class of 1930. She graduated from Indiana Teaching College (ISU) in Terre Haute, IN with her two year degree. Marie worked as a bookkeeper for Casey First National Bank and was a librarian at Casey High School in the 1930's and later was a substitute teacher in the Casey School system. Marie also worked as a bookkeeper for Armour Meat Packing Co. in Columbus, GA during WWII, while her husband Pete was stationed at Fort Benning, GA. Marie was a member of the Casey United Methodist Church. She was very dedicated and enjoyed serving the Lord through the CUMC, where she taught Sunday School, Bible School and was an officer of the United Methodist Women and WSCS. Marie was active in the Cub Scouts as a Den Mother and was active in the Casey Women's Club for many years where she served in various capacities. Marie was an avid reader of biography, historical and political books and articles. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 18, 2010 at the Markwell Funeral Home, Casey, IL with the Rev. Dr. Penelope Barber officiating. Burial will follow in the Washington Street Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
