Margaret Emma "Marty" Carlen's Obituary
Margaret Emma "Marty" Hawker Carlen, 92, of Hazel Dell, IL passed away at 8:15 a.m. on Monday, May 11, 2015 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, Coles County, IL. She was born February 18, 1923 in Hazel Dell, IL, the daughter of William Howard Hawker and Anna Loreen Cook Hawker. On November 10, 1957 she married Roland LaMar Carlen in Hazel Dell, IL. He passed away on November 29, 2006. Survivors include her children, Jeanette Lea Carlen and Michael Roland Carlen of Hazel Dell, IL; sisters, Mildred Biggs of Hazel Dell, IL and Carolyn Lansbery Fasig of Casey, IL; sisters in law, Shelby Hawker of Hazel Dell, IL, Janis Greenwell, LaDora Carlen and Sharon Carlen, all of Casey, IL; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Roland Carlen; brothers, Howard Hawker, Carl Hawker and Herbert Hawker. Mrs. Carlen served our country in the US Navy from November 13, 1944 to May 15, 1946. Upon her return to Hazel Dell she worked as a stitcher for Ettlebrick Shoe Manufacturing in Greenup, IL. Marty was a member of the Hazel Dell Church of Christ. She was a lifelong resident and loved the Hazel Dell community. She spent her life devoted to the care of her family; Roland, Jeanette and Mike were the light of her life. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at the Hazel Dell Church of Christ, 123 W. Main St., Hazel Dell, IL. Burial will follow in the Hazel Dell North Cemetery with graveside military rites by the Greenup VFW Post #4598 and Hazel Dell American Legion Post #1230. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday evening at the Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL. Memorial donation may be made to choice of the donor.
