Marc Alan McClellan's Obituary
Marc Alan McClellan, 64 of Casey, Illinois, passed away September 5, 2014 at Charleston Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Charleston, Illinois. He was born on November 17, 1949 in Terre Haute, Indiana, the son of Franklin "Ghandi" McClellan and Betty Jean Hartman McClellan of Martinsville, Illinois. On March 18, 1978 he married his wife Robin Kay Davidson. Survivors include his devoted wife of 36 years, Robin Davidson McClellan, daughters, Bethany and husband Kyle Kusterman of Casey, Illinois and Katherine "Katie' and husband Jonathon "Jon" Hanner of Charleston, Illinois, granddaughter, Bay Kusterman of Casey, Illinois and grandsons, Braxton and Kase Hanner of Charleston, Illinois, brothers, Michael McClellan of Savoy, Illinois and David McClellan of Marshall, Illinois, several cousins, nieces, nephews and many close and personal friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and young daughter Kimberly McClellan. Marc "Burly Bear" was a Vietnam veteran. He proudly served his country in the United States Army 101st Airborne Division in 1970 and was assigned to Phu Bi, Vietnam and served as an infantryman at the Rock Pile in 1971. Marc was in several intense battles and was injured while helping his fellow brothers-in-arms when coming back from his guard duty. For his injuries and bravery he received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Marc received honorable discharge of military service and was awarded the following medals for service: National Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Two Overseas Service Bars, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Three Bronze Stars, and the Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation Badge. Marc was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Adult Sunday School Class. He worked for the City of Casey for 28 years and was the Gas Foreman when he retired. He was a lifetime member of the Casey Illinois VFW, Past Commander, Jr. Vice, Trustee, and Service Officer, and served on Military Funeral Guard, Parade Color Guard. He was a 40 year member of the Martinsville Illinois American Legion and served in their Color Guard and Military Funeral Guard. Marc was a Martinsville High Graduate and Classmate of the Class of 1967 and helped with each reunion. He was a member of the United States Army 101st Airborne Division 1st of the 501st Charlie Company Reunion Group. Marc liked to ride his recumbent bicycle, read and go to the library, to fish and hunt; he followed and loved the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears and Illini Basketball and Football. Marc also spent a lot of his time visiting with Veterans in the hospital and nursing homes. He loved his girls, grandchildren and our family, friends, pets and feeding the wild animals. He loved life and lived it to its fullest. Visitation will be held from 4 pm to 7 pm on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at the Markwell Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 12, 2014 at Markwell Funeral Home, 200 North Central Avenue, Casey, Illinois. Following the service the burial and Military Rites will be held at the Washington Street Cemetery on East Washington Street, Casey, Illinois.
