She took a job with Reuben H. Donnelly (the publisher) where she worked until she and her husband (who worked for Illinois Bell Telephone Co) both retired in 1976. In 1981 they along with a number of her brothers and sisters decided to move to Casey, IL, where they and the local members of the family could be together in their retirements. She made friends with other widowed senior citizens and was a regular attendee at the Casey Senior Center. In 2006 she requested support and received "help at home" services. She lost her driver's license when she was 94 and began riding the senior bus service. She enjoyed the rides and it gave her some people to talk with. In 2011 her son Michael moved to Casey to be with her. With the help of visiting care givers, full time care was provided for her. In March 2015 Louise fell getting out of bed and broke her hip. She was taken to Charleston and sent directly to Sarah Bush Lincoln Hospital. There surgery was performed to replace the hip.
