Lorene Jeffers Ray's Obituary
Iris Lorene Jeffers Ray, 91, of Casey, IL passed away at 6:17 p.m. EST at Union Hospital, Terre Haute, IN. She was born October 13, 1914 in Martinsville, IL the daughter of Ralph Jeffers and Lena Hopkins Jeffers. On July 14, 1957 in Martinsville, IL she married Gerald D. Ray, he passed away on August 15, 1997. Survivors include her sister, Velma Hutchens of Sun City West, AZ; nephew, Robert Hutchens and wife Mary of Ithaca, New York; nieces, Carol Vedrody and husband Steve of Cahoon, GA and Kathy Collen and husband Lee of Santa Fe, New Mexico. She was preceded by her parents and husband. Lorene graduated from Martinsville High School, she was a graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University with a Bachelor of Music Degree and was a graduate of Indiana State Teacher College with a Master of Science Degree. She was a member of the Casey United Methodist Church, Illinois Retired Teachers Association, Clark County Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma Society, and a member of the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra where she was an accomplished Cellist. Lorene retired from teaching in 1972 after spending most of her teaching career in the Casey School system as a music and elementary classroom teacher. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, August 3, 2006 at 2 p.m. at the Markwell Funeral Home, Casey, IL with Rev. John Gartelos officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Casey Cumberland Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Casey United Methodist Church or the Illinois Wesleyan University.
