Lois E. Thompson Koppler Downey's Obituary
Lois Elizabeth Thompson Koppler Downey, age 93, of Lawrenceville, IL formerly of Martinsville, IL and Hot Springs, AR passed away at 4:35 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at her home. She was born July 25, 1926 in Melrose, Clark County, IL, the daughter of Fred Thompson and Viola Cross Thompson. On February 2, 1949 she married Aubry Koppler in Melrose, IL; he passed away on February 4, 1978. On September 21, 1981 she married Robert Wendell Downey in Benton, AR; he passed away on September 24, 2011. Survivors include her stepson, Robert Downey, Jr. of Martinsville, IN; stepdaughter, Andrea Brooke (Randy) of Indianapolis, IN; step grandchildren, James, Danielle and Shawn Downey and Alison and Melissa Lee; nieces, Janice Rae Curry of Hillsboro, OR and Joann Huffington of Marshall, IL; great niece and nephew, Camille Curry and Christopher Curry; cousin, Anna Dee Wells and her family of Annapolis, IL; good friend, Rose Mary Musgrove of Bridgeport, IL; caregivers, Barbara Thompson, Christian Cooper, Rhonda Harvey, Mary Thompson, Frankie Harvey, Sandy Dusti and BreiAnna Jones. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, brothers, Dean Thompson and Dallas Thompson; sister in law, Roselyn Thompson and stepson, James Jeffrey Downey. Lois was a 1944 graduate of Martinsville High School. She worked as a bookkeeper and accountant for United Methodist Village for 23 years. She previously worked at Lawrenceville Coal Company, Abernathy Hardware and was a clothing model. A lifelong passion was music, she sang and played piano her entire life. Her first vocal solo was at age 3 at the Melrose Church; she played piano at Church beginning at age 8. She was a member of First Church of God and a Sweet Adeline Member performing with the Crystal Chimes. In addition to music, Lois loved traveling; she has traveled to every state. She enjoyed playing cards, especially the game of Rook; she would join friends for a few games once a month. Lois enjoyed walking, lunches with her girlfriends and especially loved spending time with her Persian and Ragdoll cats. A Memorial Service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Greenwell Funeral Home, 30 N. Washington St., Martinsville, IL. Inurnment will held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon in Ohio Cemetery, rural Clark County, IL.
