Lloyd D Montgomery's Obituary
Lloyd D. Montgomery, 79 of Martinsville, IL passed away 11:40 p.m. December 11, 2010 at Heartland Manor Nursing Center, Casey, IL surrounded by his family. He fought for 4 long years against diabetes and its complications. He was born May 3, 1931, near Oliver, IL to Dean and Cecile Nicholson Montgomery. On March 24, 1955, he married Lucy M. Burris in Casey, IL. Lloyd is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Lucy, 3 sons, Jim (Beverly), Mike (Rhonda) and David, 1 daughter, Debra (Ron) Hawkins; 8 grandchildren, Eric (Kristi) Montgomery, Erin (Andy) Leichty, Brandon Burkybile, Lindsay Montgomery, Michaela Montgomery, Amanda Montgomery, Shane Montgomery and Alexis Montgomery, 3 great grandchildren, Ashtyn Nash and twins, Benjamin and Addison Leichty and one to be born in March, sister, Cheryl Auld, brother-in-law, Bill (Carole) Burris and sisters-in-law, Betty Darling and Marjorie Burris. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Leslie and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He graduated from Casey High School in 1949, where he was very active in sports. He held the record for the 110 high hurdles until the early 70's. He played softball for many area teams throughout his adult years and is a member of the Casey Softball Hall of Honor. He instilled in his kids and grandkids the love of the game and the hard work ethics it takes to win. Next to playing or watching his kids and grandkids play ball, he loved the outdoors and hunting. He was truly an avid sportsman. His first choice in hunting was deer and for 45 years made the annual "deer hunt" to Pope County, which included his grandfather, father, brother, brothers-in-law, sons, grandsons and nephews. Throughout the years, Lloyd worked in the oilfield, farmed and was a member of Union Local #171, which later became Union Local #159. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at the Markwell Funeral Home, Casey, IL with Brother Robert Stephens officiating. Burial will follow in the Kickapoo Cemetery, south of Martinsville, IL. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
