Lewis Readmond Laymon's Obituary
Lewis Readmond Laymon, 90, of Champaign went to his eternal home on Tuesday (September 24, 2013) at his home at Bickford of Champaign, surrounded by family. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday (September 27) at Markwell Funeral Home in Casey, Illinois, and from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday (September 28) at First Baptist Church, Savoy, with funeral services to follow at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Randy Gauger will officiate. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Hazel Dell South Cemetery with Rev. Riley Laymon officiating at the graveside. Lewis was born in Hazel Dell, Illinois, on January 8, 1923 to Eugene and Matilda Readmond Laymon. He married Lucille Erwin on March 3, 1946 in Hazel Dell. She preceded him in death on April 24, 2002. Surviving are their son, Dennis (Joan) Laymon of Woodstock, IL and their daughters Martha (Marvin) Morgan of Philo, IL and Amy (Chris) Loyet of Glen Carbon, IL; Grandchildren, Matt Morgan, Michelle Knizner, Melissa Couch, Madeleine Loyet and Jessica Loyet; and five great-grandsons. He is also survived by one sister-in-law, Harriett Laymon, Hazel Dell; one brother-in-law, Paul Erwin, Casey and a host of nieces and nephews. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers - Irvin, Owen, Robert, Delbert, Clifford, Charles and Lowell and three sisters - Grace Tharp and Elizabeth and Josephine Laymon. Lewis graduated from Casey High School and worked at a variety of jobs before he was employed with a St. Louis engineering consulting firm in areas of Missouri, Illinois and Iowa for 17 years and then Continental, later known as Verizon Telephone Company in Palestine and Mascoutah, Illinois and New London and Fayette, Iowa for 14 years, retiring in 1986. After Lucille's death, Lewis moved to the "Windsor of Savoy" and most recently to the "Bickford of Champaign." He was an active member of the First Baptist Church, Savoy and the Lion's Club in both Casey and Champaign. He enjoyed spending time with his many friends and being with his family. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Savoy, 1602 S. Prospect Ave., Savoy, IL 61874 or the Empty Tomb, 301 N. 4th St., PO Box 2404, Champaign, IL 61825. Graveside Committal will be at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at the Hazel Dell South Cemetery.
