LeRoy Staley's Obituary
LeRoy Staley, 79, of Casey, IL passed away at 3 a.m. on Monday, March 2, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 15, 1935 in Casey, IL, the son of Robert Staley and Bertha Lorine Knecht Staley. On June 28, 1958 he married Nancy Sue Bridgman. She passed away on February 11, 1981. Survivors include son, Rich Staley and wife Cheryl of Casey, IL; daughter, Shellie Jo Staley of Greenup, IL; special friend and companion, Dorothy "Dot" Swick of Casey, IL; daughter-in-law, Joni Staley of Casey, IL; grandchildren, Ryan Staley; Kelsey Staley; Audra Taylor and husband Toby; great granddaughters, Gracie and Eliana Taylor; brother, Bobby Staley and wife Becky of Casey, IL; sister, Betty Hudson and husband Larry of Moweaqua, IL; stepbrother, Steve Staley of Indianapolis, IN and many friends and acquaintances. He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, Nancy Staley in 1981; son, Douglas Leon Staley in 2002 and brother, Ernest Staley. LeRoy was a 1955 graduate of Casey High School. He proudly served his country in Germany and France from 1958 to 1960 in the US Army. Upon his return to Casey in 1960 he took over the Mobil Oil gas station at the corner of Rte. 40 and Rte. 49 in Casey. LeRoy faithfully worked at his business until his retirement in 2013. LeRoy, Nancy and Bertha took over the old Davis Café in 1973. They renamed the restaurant "The Old Homestead Café" and continued to operate the restaurant until 1979. LeRoy was a charter member of the Casey Lions Club; a former member of the Casey Rotary Club, the Casey Fire Department, the Softball Hall of Fame and the Casey Softball Association of which he has served as the President. In 2012 he was inducted into the Illinois ASA Hall of Fame; he was truly touched and humbled by this honor. LeRoy was a member of the Casey VFW Post 5762; the Casey Masonic Lodge 442; the Danville Consistory; the Ainad Shrine of East St. Louis, IL and had served as past President of the Casey Shrine Club. LeRoy was one of the founders of the 1st Clark County Shrine Club Fourth of July Celebration and the 10-70 Motor Patrol. LeRoy regularly attended the First Baptist Church in Casey, IL. LeRoy was a "huge" race car fan and considered A.J Foyt "the" favorite driver of all time. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2015 at the First Baptist Church with Brother Billie Ray Ulrey, Rev. Tom Marsh and Rev. Gene Ellis officiating. Burial will follow in the Casey Cumberland Cemetery, Casey IL with graveside military rites by the Casey VFW and Hazel Dell American Legion. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the First Baptist Church, 101 E. Alabama St., Casey, IL.
