Leonard McCrory's Obituary
Leonard McCrory, 91, of Yale, IL formerly of Casey, IL passed away at 6:32 p.m. on Sunday, March 6, 2011 at the Rest Haven Nursing Home, Newton, IL. He was born September 22, 1919 in rural Casey, IL, one of twin sons born to Herbert D. McCrory and Notie Mae Gallatin McCrory. On October 27, 1947 he married Cleda Smith in New Albany, IN. Survivors include his loving wife of sixty-three years, Cleda McCrory of Yale, IL; son, Jim McCrory of Yale, IL; daughter, Barbara Boyer and husband Michael of Vincennes, IN; daughter, Maggie Wattleworth and husband Keith of Yale, IL; sister, Helen Sharp of Martinsville, IL; grandchildren, Stephanie (Ron) Cox, Gary (Kerri) Miller, Kendra Sanders, Michelle (Kent) Schafer, Jennifer (Greg) Bergbower and twelve great grandchildren. He was preceded by his parents, son, Robert Eugene McCrory and twin brother, Willard McCrory. Leonard was a US Army WWII veteran, serving in the Philippines and New Guinea. After returning home he worked for Caterpillar in Peoria, IL. He then moved back to Jasper County, IL to farm for the remainder of his life. Leonard loved woodworking and through the years made several pieces the family continues to cherish. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at the Markwell Funeral Home, Casey, IL with Rev. Dan Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the White Oak Cemetery, north of Oblong, IL with graveside military rites by the Casey VFW and Hazel Dell American Legion. Visitation will be held from 12 (noon) to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions and donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 2509 S. Neil St., Champaign, IL 61820. The family would like to extend a special "Thank you" to the kind staff of Newton Rest Haven Nursing Home for their wonderful care.
