Lela "Jean" Scott's Obituary
Lela "Jean" Hamilton Scott, age 93, of Martinsville, IL died at 2:15 a.m. on Monday, May 27, 2024 at her home with her family at her side.
Visitation will be 9 - 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at Greenwell Funeral Home in Martinsville, IL. The funeral will follow the visitation with Branton Scott and Rev. Kevin Small officiating. Burial will be in Ridgelawn Cemetery in Martinsville, IL.
She was born March 8, 1931, in rural Martinsville, IL, daughter of Virgil David and Eunice Esther (Lindsey) Hamilton. She married Charles "Everett" Scott on November 1, 1947 in Marshall, IL; he preceded her in death on May 31, 2005.
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Elliott (Rick) of Marshall, IL; two sons, Brian (Hope) Scott of Plainfield, IN, and Brad (Sue Ann) Scott of Martinsville, IL and a sister, Lois Cutright of Martinsville, IL; eleven grandchildren, Misty Elliott McDonald, Kelly Elliott Dudley, Tiffany Elliott (Adam) Moseley, Mark Scott, JoDee Scott (Jordan) Templeton, Siera Scott (Alex) Pleasant, Brendan (Sydni) Scott, Bryant (Kelsey) Scott, Brayden (Rachel) Scott, Brody Scott, and Branton Scott; twelve great-grandchildren, Chloe Black, Will Dudley, Grace Dudley, Olivia Moseley, Bennett Moseley, Jarod Barnes, Jackson Scott, Jayla Templeton, Lucy Scott, Edwin Scott, Hudson Scott, Harlynn Scott and was looking forward to rocking baby boy "H" Scott in August. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Herbert O. "Herb" Hamilton and sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Zachary.
Jean attended Martinsville High School. She worked for many years at the Martinsville IGA. Jean enjoyed her kids, grandkids, great grandkids and was blessed by many special friends as well as family that called her "Aunt Jean". She was the fun Grandma Jean/Mamaw. In later years, she loved rocking the babies and was referred to as "the baby whisperer" among family. Jean was baptized at Wesley Chapel Church in Orange Twp., Clark County, IL.
